Are you a Sims fan? Do you have or are you considering buying the Macbook Air?
The Macbook Air is not positioned as a gaming device. While that doesn’t stop one from gaming on it, it is wise to make sure that the game you choose to play is compatible with it.
With both newer releases of the game itself as well as the Macbook Air, ensuring compatibility is a challenging task. It is frustrating to spend on a Macbook if you wish to play your favorite game, but it cannot run on the system.

Although released more than eight years ago, Sims 4 is still the newest release of the classic life simulation game in the Sims series.
While it is available in two editions, standard and digital deluxe, the requirements don’t change. Both editions are Mac-compatible. In both cases, you will need to use the Origin app for macOS, published by EA games.
The Origin app is not only required to download the game and access the Mac version, but it will also let you access many other games apart from Sims 4 on a Macbook. So before setting up the game, you will need to download and install the Origin client. It is available as a DMG file from EA.
While the app itself is free, the game isn’t. So you will need to purchase either of the game editions separately or subscribe to the Play or PlayPro subscription gaming services offered by EA.
Sims 4 is a game that requires Apple’s Metal API for graphics. However, this is available in the case of both the older Macbook Air (M1) and the newer Macbook Air (M2). Even the operating system isn’t a bottleneck because both of them can run OS versions later than 10.11, which is what the game needs at a bare minimum.
RAM, too isn’t an issue, as the M1 and M2 have a minimum of 8 GB RAM preinstalled, sufficient to run the Sims 4 game.
While EA recommends having an Intel processor, the M1 and M2 don’t come with one. It is a similar case to the GPU. EA recommends having one from NVIDIA or AMD, which these Macbook Air models don’t have. However, it doesn’t mean that Macbook won’t run the game. Rest assured that you can still play Sims 4 on Macbook.
As far as storage is concerned, even though the M1 and M2 both have at least 256 GB of storage space, make sure you have about 18 GB free to run Sims 4 on Mac as well as for some custom content and saved games. These can take about 1 GB of space.
Also, while EA requires using a mouse with the game, the Macbook Air’s touchpad will do just fine, and you can play Sims 4 on your Mac without a separate mouse. You will need your Macbook Air to be online to activate the game.
Can You The Sims Mobile On MacBook Air
This game is meant for smartphones and tablets, so there is no way to natively run it on a Macbook Air. However, suppose you have an Android emulator installed, such as the one from Google for app developers or even a gaming-optimized emulator such as Bluestacks. In that case, you can use that to install and run Sims Mobile.
This game was released in 2018, so it is comparatively new to the Sims 4 game. The game is free but has some in-app items available for purchase. However, it doesn’t demand much in the Android version. If your chosen emulator can run at least version 4.4 of Android, you should be able to install and play The Sims Mobile.
Do note that running Android emulators requires a lot of processing power and memory. It is expected that the Macbook Air will overheat a little when running emulators for a long while.
Can You Play The Sims Freeplay On MacBook Air
This, too, is a free Sims game meant for smartphones and tablets, including devices where the Amazon app store is available. Android version requirements are the same as that of Sims Mobile. However, unlike the title of the game, this one, too, has some items available for in-app purchases.
Sims Freeplay is a rather old game, released more than ten years ago, but it is still being updated regularly as of 2022. An Android emulator is required to play it on your Macbook Air.
It is certainly possible to run Sims on a Macbook Air, whether a Sims 4 or a smartphone version of the game. Sims 4 is compatible with Macbook Air devices. You don’t necessarily need a high-end device such as the Macbook Pro. To play the Sims 4 on Macbook, you will need to get the Origin app, whereas, to play the other 2, you will need an Android emulator.
